After 20 seasons, an era at Emmett High School has come to a close. With a simple, "I'm signing off now, it's been fun," Al, the voice of Huskie football for the last two decades, switched off the microphone in the Huskie Stadium press box for the final time.
"It was time to step down," Schneider said. "It's really fun and I want to give somebody else the chance to try it."
The retired EHS English teacher took over the public address announcer's chair in 1991, shortly after arriving in Emmett. At that time, the public announcement duties fell to student volunteers.
"They would just grab whatever kid they could find," Schneider said "They'd be up there goofing around like kids do."
