'Avid sports fan' announces plays for Seventy-First football games

Tanya Wallace sits in a near-empty press box at Seventy-First's Loyd E. Auman Athletic Field in Fayetteville, NC. The plain brick and concrete surroundings may not look like much, but for Wallace, it's a dream come true and a piece of history in the same package.  


Wallace just may be the first woman ever given the regular assignment of doing public address announcing for high school football games in Cumberland County.

A 1991 Seventy-First graduate and a teacher at the school for the last seven years, Wallace is in her first full season with the varsity team.

She'd done announcing at Falcon basketball games, including some junior varsity football.     read full story
