Call of the Panthers: Tryouts for PA announcer, anthem singers draw hopefuls

Their voices echoed through the cavernous arena, "And now the starting lineup for coach Gerard Gallant and yourrrr Florida Panthersssss!"

Other, more lyrical voices reverberated through the rafters: "Oh say can you seeee, by the dawn's early light..."   

They came from as far away as North Dakota and Indiana with a dream to scream and sing for the Florida Panthers.

South Florida's National Hockey League team held auditions at the BB&T Center in Sunrise recently for national anthem singers and for a public address announcer.

"It's actually been incredible and a little overwhelming, in a good way," said Pamela Zager-Maya, vice president of marketing for the Panthers. "There's a lot of great talent out there and we wanted to explore it."  link to story and video
