It's never easy replacing a legend.
Just ask the long list of Packers coaches who followed in the footsteps of Vince Lombardi or the UCLA basketball leaders who came after John Wooden.
When it comes to Lehigh Valley-area public address announcers, none ever sounded better than Jim Finnen, the voice of Lafayette football for 50 years and the P.A. man for Leopards hoops for 48 seasons.
Finnen, fittingly, ended his Lafayette career in style last year, working his last football game at Yankee Stadium, where he called meeting No. 150 between Lehigh and Lafayette. Then his last basketball game at Kirby Field House a few months later came complete with a Patriot League title for the Leopards and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Finnen, who retired, is irreplaceable. However, when it comes to doing him justice with someone who has a great voice and a great personality, Dan Mowdy more than fits the bill.
