It’s not as magical as in “The Field of Dreams,” when Kevin Costner’s long-dead father emerges from the corn field and joins his son at home plate on the field he’s built. Still, Paul Coughlin does feel his deceased father’s presence every time he looks out onto Hadlock Field from the broadcast booth above the baseball diamond.
“When I was waiting to hear if I got the job this spring, I asked Pops to help me get it,” says Coughin, 50, who is in his first season behind the microphone as the Portland Sea Dogs public address announcer. “I definitely felt that he did.”
