PA Announcer Jerry O'Donnell a man with many duties in Loons' organization

Jerry O’Donnell wears a lot of different hats in his job as the general manager of ESPN 100.9 FM, the flagship station of the Great Lakes Loons.
He also wears a lot of hats in his duties as the Loons’ public address announcer since the team’s inception in 2007.
But O’Donnell’s favorite hat is a Loons’ baseball cap.
“There is nothing better than opening up that (public address booth) window and knowing that you have a couple thousand friends over and you’re going to entertain them with a baseball game,” O’Donnell said.
O’Donnell still remembers how he became the “voice of Dow Diamond.”
“I saw the job listing (for an announcer), and I said to myself, ‘This is something I can do,’” he said. “So I went to the Ryder Center (at Saginaw Valley State University) for a tryout and there was a line out the door!”
Despite an initial audition that he says he “blew completely,” O’Donnell was given a second chance to read the script and the lineup provided, and he went home feeling better about his chances. read full story
