ARLINGTON – After a scary week, Rangers public address announcer Chuck Morgan will manage to continue a consecutive games streak that is approaching that of all-time Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr.
Morgan, who underwent cervical disc fusion surgery last Friday, was at Rangers Ballpark Friday to call his 2,470th consecutive home game. He has not missed a major league game since he took over as the Rangers’ voice in 1983. He did spend one season calling Kansas City games in 2002.
“Before I went under, I told the doc two things,” said a neck-braced Morgan. “I wanted to keep the streak alive and I didn’t want him to cut the old voice box.”
