SAN DIEGO - The Padres hosted open tryouts for their vacant public address announcer position Saturday.
The casting call began at 9 a.m. at Petco Park. Blake Dorfman was the first person in line, showing up four hours before the gate opened.
"This is a once in a lifetime kind of deal … to be a voice of a big league ballpark," he said.
As the hours passed, the line kept growing, wrapping around a nearby building.
Among the crowd was Taylor Cate, who was one of the few women who came to audition.
"I wasn't really intimidated," she said. "We have to stick up for being a woman. We shouldn’t be scared because there are guys here." read full story here
