With Bauman's future uncertain, Fightin Phils hold PA auditions

Hearing Dave "Frenchy" Bauman's voice at FirstEnergy Stadium has been a part of "Your Reading Phillies" experience for more than three decades.

With the team announcing a name change and unveiling its 2013 uniforms Saturday at the stadium, could a new voice be far behind?

Forty-nine people auditioned to become the public address voice of the Reading Fightin Phils Saturday, even though Bauman's status with the team is uncertain.

John Jackson of Muhlenberg Township takes his turn during PA announcer tryouts Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Phillies announced a name change to the Fightin Phillies.

"I think he pretty clearly indicated that if we change the name he was going to retire," said Reading Fightin Phils general manager Scott Hunsicker. "I take him at his word so I assume he's retired. But I haven't spoken to him, so at some point I'll have to confirm that."  read Brian Rippey's piece here
