GERONIMO, TX — Geronimo residents know just where to find Steve Scheunemann on any Friday night during the fall.
They will tell you to locate the Navarro Panthers’ football game and you will find Steve.
He is in his 25th season as the public address announcer at Erwin-Lee Field. Fans have come to refer to him as “The Voice of the Panthers.” Many have grown up hearing his call of the games and seeing him in the press box as he gets player numbers from long-time spotter Bobby Dreibrodt and area scores from Colten Magin.
He got his start while he was a student at what was then Southwest Texas State University. Benny Kaulfus, a Navarro school counselor who served as the PA announcer, asked if he would take over his Friday night duties since Steve had done a lot of public speaking in school and at his church. Steve agreed and has held the job ever since.
