Longtime Notre Dame PA announcer John “Jack” Lloyd dies

A longtime Notre Dame sports announcer has died.

John “Jack” Lloyd passed away Thursday morning at the age of 79 after a short illness.    


Lloyd served as public-address announcer for Irish men’s basketball games for 36 years at the Fieldhouse and the Joyce Center.

He also handled announcing duties in the Notre Dame Stadium press box for nearly a half-century.

A 1958 Notre Dame graduate, Lloyd received an honorary monogram from the Notre Dame Monogram Club in 1997.

He worked as an announcer as recently as 2013.

Sad to hear this! I patterned much of my basketball PA Announcing style after this man. He helped me develop my pace and rhythm. I never met him but admired his work from afar!
