Virginia Tech hires new PA announcer for men's basketball

On Thursday, the Virginia Tech athletics department officially announced that Mike Sparrer has been named the new PA announcer for Virginia Tech men’s basketball games.

Sparrer will replace former men’s basketball PA announcer Bill McChain, who will continue to serve as the public address announcer of Lane Stadium, while adding volleyball and baseball to his responsibilities.

“I am extremely honored to have been chosen for the position of public address announcer for men's basketball at Virginia Tech,” Sparrer said in a press release. “I have been an avid fan of the basketball program dating back to the days when Dell Curry lit it up from way deep and through the days of Bimbo Coles, Ace Custis and Erick Green.”

The new PA announcer is not new to Virginia Tech. Sparrer currently serves as the Marching Virginians announcer, a position that was previously held by Virginia Tech announcer Tony Distler.    read story here
