Longtime PA announcer Pete Mattix calls final Shiloh football game in Georgia

After 13 seasons as the “Voice of the Generals,” Pete Mattix has decided to retire as Shiloh’s public address announcer, calling his final Shiloh football game Friday night when the Generals hosted Berkmar in their home finale.

Mattix is best known for generating enthusiasm among Shiloh fans with his booming signature call, “First down, Generals,” when Shiloh’s offense moves the chains. Shiloh Community Stadium opened in 1996 and Mattix started working as the PA announcer in 2003, making him the football team’s longest-running voice behind the microphone in the stadium’s 20-year history.

#The Snellville resident took over the public address role when his oldest son, Brandon, played football for the Generals in 2003. He has always been a staunch supporter of the football team’s players, regularly pointing out as many players as possible during the game, including offensive and defensive linemen. He is also well known for recognizing former Shiloh players and other alumni when they visit the press box, letting the home crowd know when they played for the Generals and where they are attending college. read full story
