Beloit Snappers features first female PA game-day announcer

BELOIT WI — There’s nothing quite like the sights and sounds of opening day at the ball park, and when fans entered Pohlman Field last week for the 31st opening game for the Beloit Snappers minor league baseball team, they were welcomed by something new, a woman’s voice from the press box.

Chrissy Scaffidi, hired a month ago as the team’s director of media and community relations, will be responsible for game-day public address announcements for the class A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.

“This is definitely going to be a first,” Scaffidi said. “I didn’t realize how few females there are in these types of roles.”

Scaffidi, 23, said she feels comfortable when it comes to public speaking. Just two weeks ago, she was the keynote speaker at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Division III banquet in Brockport, N.Y.

“My biggest worry is that people are not going to respond to a female P.A. announcer,” Scaffidi said. “It will be interesting to see how people respond.”  read the whole story here
